I believe these spoofs are used to bring to the American people's attention that everything that the politicians say are not always clear and true. In the spoof, when CNN went back and seen the clip with Tina Fey about the 5 billion bailout and compared it with what Sarah Palin actually said proved that candidates can just make up a bunch of "bull crap" to make you believe them. Also, I've also tried to watch some of the debates in the past and it seems like to me that they are not effective to me in general because they simply use words that you never heard of and just practically don't make sense with anything that they are trying to present.
